Shizendo Martial Arts

Welcome to the world of karate
“The way of the empty hand”.

One of Kent’s leading Martial Art groups

The style of Karate taught is Wado Ryu, which is a blend of Japanese JuJitsu and Okinawan traditions coupled with a strong Chinese (Quan Fa) influence. Translated Karate means “Empty Hand” and Wa-Do as “Way of peace and harmony”, Ryu as “School”, Quan Fa as “Kempo” Japanese name of China’s fist method. Shizendo is a soft style; it uses soft to overcome the hard, to harmonise with the opponent rather than meet head on. The practitioner of this art unitises subtle techniques; it is therefore a flowing art of non-resistance and developing strategic skills in long and close quarter fighting.

Shizendo teaches karate both to children and adults in separate classes to maxamise the best coaching sessions possible. There are also separate classes for beginners and advance students. Tuition is a mixture of traditional and workshop format, promoting a safe, friendly training sessions.

The children’s classes are taught in a manner that children understand, disciplined, structured, and physically active but fun! Techniques are formulated to suit their needs in an environment which is conducive to learning and developing. Each class if further divided into smaller groups normally belt-colour related with each group having their own instructor, small classes work best.

Adults training consists of traditional training methods covering a variety of concepts from the ancient martial arts practises, there are many aspects to a fully integrated martial art system.

The mind, body and spirit is forging into one through a process called the martial arts. Shizendo is not just a combat system of self defence it is an art based on Okinawan and Chinese traditions. The skills of the martial arts are cultivated through the use of training methods akin to an art based system, concepts and principles work techniques.

The Art is both a “Science and an Art”
Knowledge of the Art is the “Science”
